Going back to study for your GED is a big step, and I’m proud of every student who does it. If you’re looking for a GED prep app, here’s the short answer. The GED & Me app from GED Testing Service is the official one, it’s free to start, and it builds a study plan from your practice test score. Other prep apps exist, but many charge weekly or monthly subscriptions, so read the price first. Let’s take it one step at a time.

GED & Me: the official app
GED & Me is made by GED Testing Service LLC, the maker of the GED test. According to the GED.com page for the app, the free version includes:
- Practice questions with answer explanations.
- A personalized study path based on your GED Ready practice test score.
- Limited access to an AI tutor named Syd, with daily chat limits.
- Free in-app video lessons.
- Progress tracking, test scheduling, and reminders.
The paid Boost plan costs $19.99 a month. GED.com says it adds unlimited AI tutoring, more practice questions, and a larger library of over 30 hours of video lessons. You cannot take the GED test or GED Ready inside the app.
Download it from the App Store or Google Play. Privacy (App Store label): contact info, identifiers, usage data, and diagnostics are linked to you.
Third-party GED prep apps: read the price first
Search “GED” in an app store and you’ll see dozens of apps from companies you’ve never heard of. Many are free to download and then ask for a subscription. One example is General Ed Diploma Prep 2026 by Easy Pass: the App Store lists subscriptions at $6.99 a week, $9.99 a month, $24.99 for three months, and $39.99 a year. It has strong ratings, but an official GED practice test is still the best way to check where you are.
- Check the developer name and make sure the app is from a company you can look up.
- Read the price before you tap a trial button. Weekly plans add up quickly.
- Check the content. The GED has four subjects: math, language arts, science, and social studies.
- Read the privacy label. The App Store label for this app lists location, identifiers, usage data, and diagnostics as used to track you.
Download it from the App Store or Google Play.

Frequently asked questions
Can I take the GED test on my phone?
No. GED.com says the app can’t be used to take the GED test or GED Ready. It’s for studying, scheduling, and reminders.
Is the GED & Me app really free?
The free version is free. The Boost plan is $19.99 a month. Don’t pay unless you need the extra features.
How long does it take to prepare?
It depends on where you’re starting. A GED Ready practice test can help you see which subjects need the most work.
Are third-party GED apps safe?
Many are legitimate, but some rely on subscriptions that are easy to forget. Check the price, cancel a trial before it renews, and test yourself with official practice materials.
Bottom line
- Best place to start: GED & Me (free version).
- Best for extra practice: a third-party app, but only if you accept the subscription.
- Best for support: a free adult education class at your library or community college.
Try it for one week, and take it one step at a time. You can do this. Prices and features change, so check each app’s listing before you pay.
